This striking spacious and light filled home is layered with private, semi-open and public spaces which caters to all types of living. Continuity of materials and design style throughout the home creates a common language between the interior and exterior.
As you enter the home the cast insitu concrete steps act as a staging platform and lead you towards the custom made three metre high flush panel oak veneer entry door that veils the double height entry beyond. The sense of space is accentuated with an open riser American oak staircase with profile cut steel stringers powder-coated black. The stairs appear to float as they fold to the upper level but are grounded with a honed bluestone tiled plinth, which induces a sense of grandeur as you enter the home.
The narrow site and south facing open plan living area called for a design that could provide ample natural light. Using skylights and large windows, there is a masterful play of light throughout the home which overcame the challenging site. The large north facing windows in the entry and upper living are positioned for optimum solar gain, filtering winter sun to the centre of the home while the large eaves shade the side elevation windows in summer, which together minimise mechanical heating and cooling assistance.
The home bursts with the highest quality fixtures and finishes, including underfloor heating in the Ensuite, 2-pack Kitchen with brass tap and built-in gas fireplace. The outdoor spaces have been thoughtfully designed to maximise the full extent of the site and fitted with all necessary amenities, it’s every entertainer’s dream. The covered alfresco is equipped with a built-in BBQ, sink and haiku fan for ventilation. Under foot, the honed bluestone tiles lead you towards the pool. Even the front garden incorporates a formed concrete seat to create a parental retreat off the master bedroom.
The Pigmento Autumn Red flatlock zinc cladding that wraps around the upper level was hand folded on site and massaged into its final position, illustrating innovative installation and quality workmanship. Further inventive construction methodology was explored through the series of formed concrete design elements including the entry steps, cantilevered bench surrounding the fireplace and built in BBQ joinery.
A strong rapport and good communication with the subcontractors and client managed expectations and ensured understanding of the complex details of the home throughout the build. During and prior to the build the client was regularly involved in the day to day activities during preconstruction and construction regularly meeting with the Finesse Built team.
Overall, this home epitomises modern beachside living. The home blends innovation, cutting-edge style, high quality and precise workmanship.
